Hello! Welcome. This is the new place for my Currently Workbook pages. If you’re new to this column, let me explain! I’ve been working on my currently workbook project since 2019. Before that, I had a monthly blog post called Currently on my first blog, Shutterbean. If you want to see all of my posts, click here. This self-reflection practice has helped me improve my handwriting, grieve the death of my mom, and grow my art practice, all while helping me leave a trail of magic for my future self and loved ones to find.
Every month I create some art and catalog the month in my workbook pages. Last June, I started a YouTube channel where I post timelapse videos of my pages in progress. If you’re interested in sharing some of your workbook pages, I created a private Facebook Group to do so.
Anywho! Here are my pages from January!
I made a video of my pages in progress:
For my spread, I used:
4 x 6 labels (I cut them down)
Thank you for your patience as I transition this column from my blog, Shutterbean to The Handwriting Club Substack! Thanks to your paid subscription, I can make this post without ads. I appreciate that!
Let’s dig into the month:
My New Year rituals! Instead of going full force into 2024, I deliberately took my time settling in. I used part of my time management template pack to map out my year. You can read about my tarot-pulling card practice in this post:
At the beginning of the month, I taught an Intentions Workshop with my friend MC. It was a beautiful day, filled with amazing women who also want to live with more intention this year. (we are hosting another round of intention setting on Feb 10th if you want to join!)
I borrowed a friend’s projector this month and had some fun with photos. I’ve been in a little bit of a rut photographically and this was the perfect way to play.
I also started a new planner this year. A Hobonichi Cousin. It’s a bit bigger than the techo version I used last year. I make lists in it and play around with my handwriting. It’s a good daily art practice. I’ll write a whole post about it soon!
Good Grief
David Chappelle Stand-up
Weird Science
The Breakfast Club
Six Feet Under
Queen’s Gambit (rewatching this while sick)
I also made some videos this month:
And while we are on YouTube…
I did some George Carlin research and this whole bit about bread is the TRUTH!
I also added a few new workouts to my mix.
These are both really fun and the 20 minutes go by really fast.
The Power of Ritual- got this one for research!
The Creative Act: A Way of Being- I have been listening to the audiobook version while reading before I fall asleep.
Bubble Bubble Toil & Trouble*
I Didn’t Plan to Be a Witch*
*found these in a free mini library and love the writer’s voice
I've been listening to The Hours soundtrack while I write about my Mom. It was what I was listening to in the car while I was rushing to the hospital to see her before she died.
This song has helped motivate me to clean. Thanks for the hot tip, MC xo
Other than that, I haven’t been listening to a ton of music which is weird for me. Sometimes it’s nice to be in complete silence.
I have been listening to some podcasts. Here are some episodes I enjoyed and you might too.
I have been listening to Anderson Cooper’s podcast:
This one was so good and sad:
I am also working on recording podcast with my friend, MC. It’s called Keep Grief Weird. We will be posting our first episode soon. Follow us on Substack!
Lime Sorbet (yum!)
Made my Mom’s tacos cuz I miss her. It’s weird how you can make a dinner that smells like your childhood.
Sol Food Chicken a few times this month. I’ve been enjoying it with baked potatoes!
It had been a few years since I made Cream of Spinach Soup! I worked it into my meal prep this month. YAY. Other than that, I’ve been eating a lot of polenta. I found out that you can make it in the rice cooker and I’ve been hooked!
That was how my January went! If you want to dip into the past, here ya go!
